The application was migrated from the Android artefacts into a native Swift foundation — Swift / SwiftUI / SwiftData — and developed with Xcode & the Apple Simulator in meticulous detail work.
Bringing the app into the Apple world is a fascinating challenge and, in my view, not comparable to a complete rewrite: countless factors and pre-existing constraints play a major role, which makes the project exceptionally demanding.
Plan cycling routes, draw tour routes by hand on the map, and review elevation and weather along the way. Record rides locally, import and export GPX, and carry everything over with the portable .myway format.
Apple Maps powers search and orientation, Apple Weather shows current and hourly conditions, and an optional OpenRouteService key enables external routing.
The idea for this app comes from the Android development by my esteemed professional colleague Maid Halilović, who also holds the rights to the Android branch. His goal was to create a route app for bikers that lets you draw tour routes by hand on the map and compute possible alternatives — tailored to the specific bike in use (e-bike, road bike, etc.).
My colleague implemented the application superbly, with great attention to detail and the utmost care — a genuine enrichment for the cycling community.
MyWayNoHighway® supports planning and orientation but does not replace binding traffic guidance. Road signs, closures, weather and the actual conditions on site always take precedence.
